Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer-in-Training, Substations Electrical, Transmission & Distribution. Reporting to the Substations Electrical Engineering Manager, this position is located in our Vancouver, B.C. office. This role involves the design of high voltage substation projects from conception to construction. Key Responsibilities:


  • Design of 12 kV to 500 kV electrical substations including all deliverables for substation layouts and station services
  • Develop one-line & phasing diagrams, layout plans, sections, ground grid layouts, grounding details, conduit & cable routing plans and details
  • Prepare and review drawing lists, engineering documents, specifications and inspection and testing plans/procedures
  • Participate in client design and constructability review meetings
  • Supporting the development of proposals, study reports, engineering specifications, and contract documents
  • Contributing to the preparation of technical specifications and engineering input to material take-offs, construction and commissioning packages
  • Providing engineering technical support to the field during construction, including responding to RFIs from construction contractors, issuing Site Instructions and performing Field Reviews
  • Supporting the development of proposals, study reports, engineering specifications, and contract documents
  • Ensuring the latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design
  • Working within assigned budgets and schedules

Skills / Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university with the ability to register as an Engineer in Training with EGBC
  • 0-4 years of Transmission & Distribution utility engineering or applicable experience
  • Capable of developing creative yet practical solutions and is open-minded to alternative solutions
  • Willingness to travel to remote field locations on a short-term basis
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere are imperative
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
